What is the advantage of high speed Internet and what are the possible applications?
When you access the internet on a high speed connection, the time taken to check email, download files, use applications is a lot lesser than a lower speed connection. Thus, you can use applications like Net Telephony with greater clarity and lesser voice latency. High speeds also allow you to listen to audio and see videos live on the internet without any jarring and delay - you can use applications like video phone and video conferencing.
Top
What does an 'always on' connection mean? How do I connect to the internet?
An 'Always On' Connection means that you are always connected to the internet. You just have to enter your Username and Password to gain access to the Internet. You don't need to dial any phone number. Your phone is always free for use even while using the internet.
Top
What is the technology used by Tata Communications Broadband to provide Broadband connectivity?
Tata Communications Broadband provides broadband connectivity wirelessly through WIMAX technology. WIMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) refers to broadband wireless networks that are based on the IEEE 802.16 standard, which ensures compatibility and interoperability between broadband wireless access equipment.
Top
How does WiMax work?
Network coverage is provided with the help of a WiMax tower (Base Station) which conceptually, is similar to a cell-phone service tower. At the customer premise, equipment called wireless receiver (Subscriber Station) is installed. Signals are transmitted between the Base Station and the Subscriber Station.
Top
How does WiMax benefit me?

WiMax offers two critical items that one looks for in a Broadband connection:

1) Consistent Speed - you will consistently get the speeds that you are promised. In a wired scenario, no matter how fast the network is, the end customer network speed is limited by the limitations of the final section of wire. In the case of basic service providers whose network has been laid down over many years, the wires connecting the customer to the trunk line are usually only capable of low speed data.

2) Reliability - On account of the wireless network, network issues like downtime (on account of cable faults, thefts, cuts etc.) are rare and can be monitored and tracked much more efficiently. This improves the reliability of the service vastly.

Besides a Tata Communications Broadband connection comes bundled with a host of innovative features and compelling value added services to give you an enriched internet experience.

Top
Where is the Subscriber Station (SS) installed?
The SS is outdoor equipment which will be installed outside your premises. It is usually mounted on a wall from where the connectivity to the Base Station is good to provide reliable service.
Top
Is Tata Communications Broadband a mobile Broadband connection?
No. The signals are transmitted wirelessly only between the Base Station and the Subscriber Station. The Subscriber Station will be connected to your PC/ Laptop through a CAT5 cable. You can choose to buy a wireless router, connect the subscriber station to the router and then enjoy wireless connectivity within your premise.

What is the concept of 'Value' instead of units on Tata Communications Broadband Plans?
A Tata Communications Broadband Account comes with an account value instead of a fixed number of hours or units of data transfer. Value helps you to use our Plans and added features, based on the tariff associated with it. So, if you wish to use our content services, you pay for what you use. If you wish to upgrade to a higher speed Plan, you pay for the rate per day or rate per hour/MB associated with that tariff Plan. This brings to you the following benefits:

    1) Flexibility: Allows you the flexibility to change your base broadband Plan basis your need or buy any value added service (pay per use)
    2) Convenience: You don't have to go anywhere to make a payment. You can do so by just using the value associated with your existing account. For prepaid Plans, this works on the similar principle as pre paid mobile value charge cards, where you can use the amount to either make a local call, or a long distance call or just use it to send SMS. The appropriate amount will be debited from your account. In the case of postpaid Plans, the value used will be reflected in your monthly statement.

Smart Recharge is a feature that allows you to recharge in advance i.e. before the expiry of your current validity/ value, without losing out on your current validity. When you do a Smart Recharge, the new voucher card is not activated immediately. Instead it goes into a queue and will be activated only when the current value card expires (due to value or validity).
